The Head Lampshade

Created for A Props and scenic Painting course, This paper lantern was designed to stay together using only mechanical fasteners without any adhesives. I chose a steampunk theme because it allowed me to use brads in a natural way. The decision to make a skull was motivated by my interest in anatomy as well as characters such as the iron giant, Bender from futurama, and the automaton from the invention of hugo cabret. The silver cardstock is meant to emulate steel or aluminum, while the black woven construction paper is evocative of carbon fiber. The tissue paper diffuses light and is reminiscent of frosted glass. Black and silver cardstock, black construction paper, silver tissue paper and brass brads.
